I’ve often thought about stenciling a small space or a feature wall in my home. Templates sold these days make it pretty easy and can help any homeowner produce really stunning design, and even so, my only valiant effort to produce my own stenciled wall was a freehand ikat motif that covers the inside of our master bedroom closet. It’s charming, but it’s not a public feature spot for guests. In fact, with all of our clothes in the closet, we don’t get to enjoy the pattern that much anyways.
Lana and Joey’s bedroom wall is a big point of inspiration for me; the stenciling brings in a very specific character that wouldn’t be achieved with a flat coat of paint. (Also, I wish I had their mad decor organization skills, their home is beautiful). You can read about their whole project on their blog here.
Other places in my home that I’ve often considered for a stenciled treatment?
1. The dining room wall, pre-paneling: The wall certainly works well as a feature wall, and an oversized stencil would have worked well here too.
2. On the back wall of the built-in shelves.
3. The bathroom: Like, the whole bathroom. It’s almost a blank slate.
4. The stair risers: I painted mine stripes by hand, which I do love, but a stencil applied uniformly here would have been great too.
5. The sunroom floor: Truthfully, I stenciled it once myself, a border detail. I’d stencil a floor again though, the whole thing, corner to corner with a large pattern to scale with the room.
6. The upstairs landing: a subtle, yet always seen spot in our home.
