Pete knows I’ve got a thing about efficiency. About productivity. About not driving all over town uselessly, which is why he’s likely to be question/tease/remind me about this birdhouse until the day he loses his memory.
I saw this modern birdhouse at the mall last week–in Lovesac of all places–and had to have it. I never even go in Lovesac unless I’m pregnant and need to put my feet up for a bit, so it’s like it was meant to be. Mostly, I liked it because it looks cool and we need cooler decor items in our home after selling so many of them at the summertime yard sale, but also, it was just $15, marked down from $39 in an post-Christmas apocalypse. I love post-Christmas shopping for me.
Wouldn’t you know that I actually forgot to buy the thing while we were at the mall, so devastated by the time that we arrived home that I selfishly insisted that the whole family return with me to track it down. Clearly, hormonal. I really hate having to make multiple trips due to personal forgetfulness, this is one of the very few times I’ve done it, and maybe the only time tripping back to this specific mall because parking on a post-Christmas weekend is like putting your head in a vice.
There were two styles at our local store, the modern style that I bought, and another design, a traditional but equally cute house which was more readily in stock, and still may be if you’re local to Rochester.
Wouldn’t you know, even after we got it home and I swooned over it and hugged it a bit, we realized that the store had assembled it wrong–assuming what I bought was the sole store model–and all of the sides were basically inside out, limiting how the piece could be hung on the wall.
We fixed it without instructions, but that isn’t to say we’ll be hanging on a wall immediately because 1) putting holes in the walls still scares me considering how long we took patching and painting and 2) because I’ll need to troubleshoot a good way to install it, because the cool architectural details force it to sit off the wall by an inch.
Splurge on any fun post-Christmas sale decor?
