Speaking of Before + Afters… I’ve Been Framed (And Sponsored)

February 3, 2012

Since I’m in the rah-rah spirit of showing the evolution of my home after this week’s big feature, how about a little self-evolution-revolution as well?

I upgraded my glasses recently thanks to a friendly sponsorship by GlassesUSA.com; the $100 store credit offer was enough to buy me two pairs of prescription glasses: one, a pretty pretty dark blue frame (Reece Jakob 6001 Blue, $59), and also a pair of more classic Masyn Tortoise frames (a must-buy at just $38). Coming from a girl who has on-average spent $300 on a pair of frames (and also misplaces her single pair 5 times a day), the it feels really, really good to have a few extra (affordable/replaceable) pairs in the house for me to stumble upon when I need them (on the bedside table, on the coffee table, on the dining room table?).

Like with my house, I’m not afraid of a colorful pair of eyeglasses. I actually had a pair of lime green and magenta ones a few years ago that I lost (permanently, sad face); yes, those were a little wild, but in a subtle/fun way. When it came to choosing the new blue Reece Jakob ones, the biggest problem was choosing a color. Red, green, tortoise, purple, clear, lots of options were available, and that was a good problem to have. Color-lovers, enjoy.

The Masyn Tortoise ones are cute. They’ll be good for home wear, I think, because I think they highlight how tilty my face is although I’m kind of hiding that the way I’ve tilted my head in the reveal picture. Also, they’re slightly narrower than any glasses I’ve worn in years, and I need more time to let my blindspot adjust to not having a wide angle view.

New glasses!

The online “try it on” mirror was pretty helpful – not the same as trying them on in person with your own hands, and I know I couldn’t convince you otherwise, but it did help to narrow down their selection, which for women alone was enormous. Some that I “tried on” were immediate no-no’s for enormity, too-small-ity, or for just being a shape that I didn’t expect them to be. It’s not impossible to buy glasses without buying them on, and I’m living proof of that. At least they’re affordable, that lessens the risk. And if you still don’t like them, they do have terms associated with Satisfaction Guaranteed. I can’t speak to how that works exactly, because I liked my picks (and not just because they bought them for me in exchange for this review).

New glasses!

Two tips:

1) Have your prescription handy from your ophthalmologist (thankfully I saved the receipt from my last eye exam which had all of the details I needed).

2) And check the measurements of your favorite frames (some of the specs are usually stamped on the inside of the arm); I referenced my existing frames to select models that had similar measurements so I knew proportionately what I should be buying, and knowing that they’d be close to what I already had was reassuring that I wouldn’t look totally weird.

There are lots of links in this post. That’s because they gave me the glasses in exchange for me putting links in the content that you read. Win-win for me and them (and win for you too, if you go buy glasses too). There’s nothing else in it for me if you actually click and buy something, but use coupon code FS20 to save 20% + get free shipping with your $80 order.

Yee-hah. That’s it for the disclosure. Happy shopping.

Do it. I was always worried about ordering online (and I think we’ve even talked about it before) but this company was great to work with, and the glasses look so nice in person.

Today I found out my glasses survived the accident too… My mom found them on te passenger side floor under some glass! Woo hoo glasses! And my iPhone survived too! I’m so grateful to just be alive that everything else is just gravy :)

Life, followed by glasses and iPhone, are 3 very important things to have on this fine day. And also, visiting your sad car must have been painful for her. You’re both tough cookies.

They’re great, right? Never would have learned of GlassesUSA without your own review, so thank you!
