I volunteered to back up my mom’s digital camera a few weeks ago; the Kodak EasyShare my sister and I bought her in 2004 now had a decade’s worth of memories stored on it, and I figured one of us had better extract them for safe keeping. I spent a nice few hours reliving her assorted vacations, memories of various apartments, holidays, and photos like these, which she snapped the rainy day that she accompanied me through the inspection of my first home. Recognize any of these rooms?
Photo 1: Sunroom. Pre-blue ceiling, pre-bright windows, pre-refinished floor.
Photo 2: Dining room. Wood trim, vertical blinds, wallpaper. Pre-paneling, pre-pendant lights.
Photo 3: Living room. Basically, that’s what it would have looked like if I hung curtains over the windows.
Photo 4: Kitchen. Oak overload. Pre-stained cabinets and pre-new countertop.

Aww, I still love your other house so much. (Not that I don’t love the direction of your current house, just… awwww, blogger-friend memories!) Also, these photos finally jogged my memory as to where I had seen pleated glass pendants over a dining table, and the inspiration for our new dining room light.
Are these the original “coffee cup for scale” photos? ;) I really I guess more like “Emily (+ coffee cup) for scale”.
Oops I meant “Or really I guess”. Too much blog reading, not enough coffee.
Aww man, coffee cups for scale! Thanks Cait :)
Fun walk down memory lane. Where did you back up the photos? To the cloud or an external hard drive?
How has the landlord/rental process been? Any regrets?
Thanks Harper :) We use a giant external hard drive that backs up to another giant drive and then I have a third drive because I don’t completely trust technology. Nothing cloud being used right now, other than for file sharing/temporary storage.
The landlord stuff is going well right now – we are definitely learning a lot as we go, but kind of nervously awaiting the need to replace the roof, furnace and water heater… looming tasks like that sometimes make me feel like “ugh, we could have sold and not had to deal…” but all’s well and we have nice tenants who take great care of our little home. Some crazy stuff happens when you least expect it though, I should probably do a whole post dedicated to it.
