I get out of the office once in awhile for client-related travel. This isn’t about that, but since I was out of the home this week more than at home, I gave myself permission to slip and post something not home-related. It is design-related, and it’s pop culturally significant, as long as pop cultural significance relates to reality TV, which I do watch a lot of when I’m at home, so why doncha just let it slide.
I know better than to pass up an opportunity that’s knocking at the rental car window on these trips, and with that said, we’ve made some fun stops over the years. This week’s adventure included a stop at this well-known bakery:
I’ve only watched Cake Boss on TLC a few times, but I know enough to know that I shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to buy dessert at Carlo’s Bake Shop if I’m, you know, just passing through Hoboken. So we found it. It was less than a mile from the company we met at, and also around the corner from Starbucks (which I’ll confess, was the real reason we were cruising through this part of the city). That’s me reflected under the T in ATM.
I was surprised to see how small the shop was inside. I was not surprised at how good all of the cookies and pastries and cakes looked. *SPOILER ALERT* See that “it’s a boy” banner in the upper right? I think that’s related to this Sunday’s episode.
One thing that intrigued me while I waited in line to order my treats: A talking bobblehead. Yes, an actual talking Buddy Valastro TLC bobblehead. I didn’t feel the need to buy one, but if anyone owns one, I’d love to see it in action.
And this guy’s on the show, right? He was taking photos with a little birthday boy.
One thing that I really liked: String wrap. Maybe they’ve pointed this out on the show, but I really dig how they install package wrapping string from spools on the ceiling. I like simple, convenient packaging.
Yep, that’s right, it says Choc. Cannoli. Thumbs up. I took a single shot before it was devoured. This is what it looked like:
It was a good cannoli, although I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad cannoli. It was fresh. And then I sat covered with cannoli dust for 6 hours in the car.
