Blue Glass Goodies

In preparing for our wedding, I sourced local salvage shops with greater than normal frequency to find candles, votives, vases, trays, scrap wood, you name it, and sometimes, which, less face it, was almost all of the time, I ended up buying things for our home or for future projects instead of buying specifically for the big day. As if you can’t relate to that.

This trio blue glass jars was among one of my favorite splurges at our local VOA. Sold separately for $2/each, they cost a whopping $6.

They were made in Belgium, I can tell my raised lettering on the bottom of each glass, and they’re charming; they’re molded glass, as there’s a seam along the side of each container, but the blue is consistent and striking and a great addition to our collection. Another regular salvager (weirdly, I’m starting to see the same people in my thrifting travels) commented to me that he had admired matching larger scale containers of the same blue glass the day before, as if it was a whole set being sold separately and I just barely missed out on a steal of a blue glass deal (blërg!*).

I came home to find that they’re Belgian spice/apothecary bottles, and sell for a $10-25 each on places like etsy and ebay. I especially like how the round glass tops sit gently and loosely into the base, the lack of complete air-tightness gives it more of a vintage feel to me than common household containers you’d find in stores these days.

Right now, I have them displayed with purpose on our bathroom window ledge holding cotton swabs, cotton balls, and an assortment of hair ties (which I can never seem to find when I need one).
