Pete moved these two posters over here last month. I like them; I like Frank Black, I like the Pixies, and I like that albeit unrelated designs, they compliment each other nicely. I’m still not sure where to hang them, but figured I’d show you the before and after of the framing itself, because it really does these great posters justice:
Seriously, that dog is the best. He even allowed me to take a close-up. A rarity. He must have been sleepy.
Anyways, they arrived in brassy frames. I like the art but I do not dig big brassy or gold frames. I guess it’s only a dated look that I’m still promoting on the picture frames in my kitchen. I do think the ones that came with these posted will be salvageable for a future project, so maybe they’ll make an appearance in the future… painted or decoupaged or something.
I made a note to find some new ones somewhere, and I lucked out when we found ourselves at IKEA last month. Hello, IKEA. I picked up a few of the larger brown RIBBA frames since I’m a fan of the style — and for being finished and available in lots of different sizes, they’re really among the most affordable I’ve seen at IKEA or anywhere. Plus, I figured I couldn’t go wrong since I already have half a dozen white RIBBAs floating around the house. New art in place, the added brown chunkiness make these posters even better.
I’m lucky that I picked frames large enough to still allow me to use the mats that come with them; the last few times I framed using RIBBA, the fit of the prints wasn’t spot-on so I abandoned the mats to highlight the work differently; that technique wouldn’t have worked this time, since IKEA now prints in black text on both sides of the placeholder art when you buy a new frame (and the plethora of text can’t be disguised easily).
Now, where to display… it’s between the master bedroom, the upstairs landing, and the dining room. Dining room may have just taken the lead since I think the brown frames and colorful art would work well, even though I really want to boost the art level in my bedroom. You’ve seen my pad; make some recommendations?

I just found you through Ashley Everyday! I’m in love with those posters! I just did some back tracking and I’d say the dining room, I think they would go well there.
Hi Ashley! Thanks for visiting :) Dining room seems more and more like the right place. I THINK they’ll fit side by side on one wall without looking two squished. I guess if it ends up looking weird, the bedroom will be my second choice.
LOVE those frames! I’ve never seen frames like that, that large, from Ikea! Looks fantastic!!!
There’s one size larger too (and still priced <$35 if I recall). Love them.
