Just after the holidays, Marshall’s brought in a lot of new merchandise, including, but not limited to, some really great rugs, pillows, and seat cushions. While modifying my dining room chairs hasn’t been a priority, I am fully aware that the seats are a tad uncomfortable – very flat wood. It’s why I opt for the couch so often.
And that was true until a 4-pack of chair cushions in amongst the new merch caught my eye, although instead of being love at first sight, fell into a “like-but-reluctant-since-it’s-not-a-priority-at-first-sight” category. It took me 3 trips to Marshall’s to finally buy these. I’m usually much more decisive about my likes and dislikes, so this hesitation isn’t true to my character.
The first time I saw them, I wasn’t sold; I wasn’t sure the colors would be right with my palette. On the second trip, Pete was the one to point them out and convinced me that the colors and pattern would look good. He also liked the orange/red better than the brown pattern I had been considering during my first trip. Still hesitant (or practicing good self-control) I still left the store empty-handed that day, but at one point over the last week I realized that those cushions, the pattern, the orange colors really might look really nice on the chairs that sit around my deck table all summer (of course I’d bring them in every night because of the weather and dew and unforgivably poopy birds, but they’d look nice while I was entertaining out there). And so, if they were out on the deck, it might be nice to have a matching set around the dining room table permanently.
Yes, that was roundabout my train of thought. The possibility of being able to have matching affordable chair cushions on my deck and in my dining room won me over to the idea of having them in the dining room at all. And unrelated but sort of related, I have two orangey-red stools in the living room/dining area, the colors of which I thought might tie right in very nicely.
Back to Marshall’s for a 3rd time. I lucked out in a big way, because there were only 2 4-packs left, and only in the coveted orange color, and also, they were on clearance! Marked down from $24.99 to $20 for a pack of 4! Savings of $10 total (which enabled me extra funds to splurge on a bottle of black licorice Philosophy body wash — swoon!).
And they look good, just like Pete thought they would:
The set for the deck chairs will have to hang out inside for another few months, but I’m really pleased to report that the dining room is looking fantastic (and is more comfortable) with the addition of these little babies.

I only wish I had your self control. I’m still in the market for a new set of dining room chairs that are painfully boring or outlandishly expensive.
Where from, Shannon?
