Hey guys – unfortunate update! Seems that this shop is no longer in business so I’ve removed the links, except for the one directing to the Etsy page in the hopes that they’re back in business soon!
I’m taking a time out for a moment to feature Hero Design, a boutique out of Buffalo, NY (since moved to CA) who is making a difference for an important and deserving cause, the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter. I stumbled upon their work innocently via Etsy (shoppin’ for some 16″x20″ prints for new IKEA frames, yes, I’m narrowing it down!), and was impressed with Hero’s aestetic, and moreover, their dedication and involvement within the Buffalo community. They’re a husband/wife duo, and have a shop on Allen St., for you natives; I can’t wait to check it out myself.
Their designs and illustrations have an impressive reach into the music industry, but they engage with cultural institutions and, really, have quite a wide range of projects on display for purchase at their site and in their shop. There’s a pleasant variety of prints that would look great in a child’s room, lovely illustrations, as well as event posters (the kind of stuff I can’t keep my hands off).
Here are some of my favorites, all 3 (and many, many more) are available at their Etsy shop:
They won me over, however, with their silkscreened art to benefit the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter. The couple voluneers, as well as encourages donations through the sale of prints from their shelter series. They’ll donate proceeds, as well as offer free prints in exchange for your direct donation. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy like a golden retriever.
Here are two prints in the series, Betty + Zelda:
The planets even aligned, and The Buffalo News ran this story on Zelda and her new family just yesterday. That’s one lucky pup.
So, if you’re in Buffalo, get in your car and get over to Hero Design to support a good cause and make a difference in a company that works to make a difference in its community. And then head on down to the shelter and snuggle a kitten. Or donate blankets. Or bring home a new best friend.
For your art adopting pleasure, visit the Etsy store or the boutique’s website.
And for your animal adopting pleasure, be sure to visit the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter.

OMG that print of Zelda needs to come live in my house!
Easy + attractive way to support a good cause, Cait! I’m looking forward to stopping by the boutique in a few weeks to see their other work in person too.
Wonderful blog about our friends Mark and Beth Manos Brickey of Hero Design! Thank you for featuring them, as well as Zelda, Betty, and the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter!

They’ve done wonderful work, both for their business and in the community. I’m happy to have been able to feature them.
